Patient Resources
Transplant Social Workers
As part of our dedication to treating the whole patient at VCU Hume-Lee Transplant Center, we understand that emotional support and guidance is as important as even our most state-of-the-art medical treatment. Our licensed social workers play an important role on your transplant team, guiding you and your family through the transplantation process in a way that is manageable and healthy and connecting you with resources to help you deal with the emotional and practical challenges of transplant surgery.

Support group
To facilitate ongoing discussion and education Hume-Lee provides a regular support group, called the Department of Energy, for our patients and their families.
The group meets the second and fourth Tuesday of each month from noon to 1 p.m. in the Transplant Clinic, which is on the seventh floor of the Gateway Building. Discussion subjects vary each meeting and include such topics as Coping Effectively with Loss and Change, Supporting the Caregiver, and Staying Positive When Life Throws You a Curve.
For information about support group meeting topics, please contact Sheila Bullock, M.S.W. at (804) 828-8193 or Sheila.Bullock@vcuhealth.org.
