Substance Use Disorder Treatment (OB MOTIVATE Clinic)

With compassion and respect, we offer women treatment and support for substance use disorders

Did you know that less than 1 in 10 people with substance use disorder are getting treatment? The path to recovery can be challenging, but treatment can help. Whether you want to address a substance use disorder as you prepare for pregnancy, discuss treatment options after you deliver or are looking for treatment especially for women, our OB MOTIVATE clinicians are here to help you.

OB MOTIVATE at VCU Health, is the only program in central Virginia that provides an interdisciplinary approach to women with substance use disorders during pregnancy and beyond. Our patient-centered approach creates a safe space, free of judgement, and you will be seen by OB-GYN and addiction specialists on the same day, in the same clinic.

Our providers work with you to create a tailored treatment plan. that meets your goals and needs.

The staff at VCU are more educated and more compassionate towards the issue of addiction, especially in pregnancy and motherhood. So, I haven't dealt with anything here compared to what I've seen and experienced at other places…. I'm very grateful for that. – VCU Health OB MOTIVATE patient

Patient Resources

Addiction is a chronic brain disease that is treatable. Addiction involves genetics, brain pathways and your environment. Substance use disorders are one type of addiction. Continued use of a drug or alcohol leads to changes in your brain that make it hard to stop taking the substance, even if you want to. Like high blood pressure or diabetes, addiction is a long-lasting illness that you can manage with the help of others. People with substance use disorders can recover.
