Adult Volunteer Program (non-student)

Thank you for expressing your interest in volunteer opportunities at VCU Health! We appreciate the hundreds of people who give their time, energy and talents each year to serve our patients and their families while they are cared for in our environment. There are a number of areas where volunteers can be of assistance. No matter what the area of service, the presence of volunteers has a powerful impact.

Volunteering at VCU Health is a big investment of your time and energy. Our volunteers go through an extensive onboarding process that includes several background checks, health screening, and training, followed by weekly service with their chosen assignment for at least one year. To show our appreciation, VCU Health invests in our volunteers with staff time from across the health system and a dedicated Volunteer Services department. VCU Health also pays the costs associated with comprehensive background checks, initial health screening, and annual updates.

If you are interested in joining our team of volunteers, please submit an application to give us some information about yourself and your interests. We match volunteers with opportunities based on their talents and availability, and the current needs of VCU Health.  Most of our volunteer opportunities are located at the VCU Medical Center, on the MCV Campus downtown, with some opportunities at our growing number of campuses and satellite clinics.

If you are currently enrolled in school or will soon apply for school, click on one of the links above or to the left for the College Student Program (undergraduate or graduate level) or the Junior Volunteer Program (for high school students).

To apply to become a volunteer as a non-student adult:

  1. Review the self-assessment before applying.

  2. Fill out the application form. If you have any difficulty please contact us at (804) 828-0922 or volunteer@vcuhealth.org.

  3. Review of applications happens monthly. After we review your application, if we think we may be able to match you with a volunteer opportunity, we may contact you to schedule an interview to further discuss your interests. Please note that due to the volume of applications we receive, we are not able to respond to every application.

  4. If we are able to place you as a volunteer, we will discuss next steps including health screening requirements, orientation, and background checks.

Thanks again for your interest in our volunteer program. If you have any questions about becoming a volunteer, contact Volunteer Services at (804) 828-0922 or volunteer@vcuhealth.org
