Nicholas D. Thomson

Nicholas D. Thomson, Ph.D

Assistant Professor, Department of Surgery

Dr. Thomson is a forensic psychologist and Director of Research for the Injury and Violence Prevention Program at VCU Health Trauma Center. He is an accredited psychotherapist by the United Kingdom Council for Psychotherapy and has over a decade of clinical experience working in prisons and inpatient settings in both the US and UK. Dr. Thomson’s research expertise includes biopsychosocial risk factors for violence, violence intervention and prevention, developmental psychopathology, and forensic psychology.

 


 

Karen Shipman, BSN, RN, CEN, TCRN joined VCU Medical Center in July 2014. She has been an RN for 32 years, with 30 of those years dedicated to the Emergency Department. In addition to working as A Matter of Balance coordinator for IVPP, as the Trauma Outreach Coordinator for VCU Medical Center she works as the liaison with our outside hospital partners, providing education and feedback. She also acts as the Trauma Survivors Network coordinator as well as educating our community on life-saving bleeding control with the Central Virginia Coalition to Stop the Bleed.
