Human Genetics

At VCU Health, Human Genetics offers genetic evaluation, consultation and counseling services for genetic diseases for all stages of human life. Faculty members are board certified in Medical Genetics, Biochemical Genetics, Molecular Genetics, Cytogenetics and Genetic Counseling.

The department provides diagnostic services through the cytogenetics lab, located in the Department of Pathology, which supports a prenatal testing program, sponsored jointly with the Department of Obstetrics and Genecology. Testing is also performed as part of the clinical evaluation of children with special needs as well as the cytogenetic characterization of cancer cells. Molecular testing is also available.
