How do you strengthen an organization to meet any challenge that comes its way?
That was a question recently posed to Marlon Levy, M.D., MBA, senior vice president for VCU Health Sciences and chief executive officer of VCU Health System. He shared his perspective on ways the academic health system is adapting to the many changes happening in health care with Laura Dyrda from the Becker’s Healthcare Podcast.
“It probably starts and ends with effective communication with our teams internally and complete transparency about the barriers that we face or think we're facing and what we think some of the solutions are,” Levy explained. “We have to be humble enough to listen to our to our team members when they give us guidance and continue to ask ourselves, “are we doing it optimally and if not, what are ways we can improve.”
The Becker’s Healthcare Podcast highlights pressing issues facing the health care industry and how leaders, like Levy, are tackling them in their own communities. Some of the other topics addressed in this episode include:
- What VCU Health is doing to adapt to new legislative changes to Medicaid
- How the health system stayed up and running during a five-day water crisis
- Ways VCU Health is expanding health care access
Levy joined VCU Health in 2015. He was appointed the senior vice president for VCU Health Sciences and CEO of VCU Health System in November 2024, after serving as the interim leader for two years. A transplant surgeon by training, Levy previously served as the director of the VCU Health Hume-Lee Transplant Center.
