VCU Medical Center appoints new chief quality and safety officer
Georgia McIntosh will continue to lead the academic medical center’s efforts around quality and safety of patient care.

After serving in an interim role over a year and a half, Georgia McIntosh, M.D., has been promoted to chief quality and safety officer (CQSO) for VCU Medical Center.
The CQSO is responsible for quality, safety, quality reporting compliance, infection prevention and performance improvement-related activities for VCU Medical Center.
In this role, McIntosh will continue to lead VCU Medical Center activities that support the goal of being nationally recognized for providing safe care for all patients. She will work closely with senior leaders and team members to establish and implement strategic priorities around quality, safety and performance improvement.
Prior to taking on the interim CQSO role, McIntosh served as the associate CQSO from July 2022 to January 2024, and the associate chair of quality and safety for the Department of Internal Medicine from January 2021 to June 2023. She has also served as a clinical instructor and has been an associate professor in the Department of General Internal Medicine at Virginia Commonwealth University School of Medicine since 2017.
McIntosh’s service also extends to professional organizations. She is a current member of the Virginia Hospital and Healthcare Association Center for Healthcare Excellence Quality & Patient Safety Advisory Council, the American Council of Physicians, the Society of Hospital Medicine and the Society of General Internal Medicine. McIntosh is also a previous winner of the Leonard Tow Humanism in Medicine Award from the VCU School of Medicine, as well as the ‘Excellence as a Clinician-Educator' Award from the Department of Internal Medicine.
