Silvia Munoz-Price named chief quality and safety officer for VCU Health System

RICHMOND, Va. (Sept. 29, 2021) —Following a nationwide search, Silvia Munoz-Price, M.D., Ph.D., has been appointed the next chief quality and safety officer for VCU Health. She will begin her new role in December 2021.

A nationally recognized expert on infectious diseases, Munoz-Price most recently served as the enterprise epidemiologist at Froedtert Health at the Medical College of Wisconsin. In her role, she oversaw infection control and prevention across four acute care hospitals and more than 30 clinics. During her tenure, Froedtert Health achieved a Top 5 ranking from Vizient, the nation's leading health care performance improvement company, in part by decreasing infection rates.

“Dr. Munoz-Price brings a wealth of knowledge, experience, and achievement in health care quality improvement and safety,” said Art Kellermann, M.D., senior vice president for health sciences at VCU and CEO of VCU Health System. “Upon her arrival, she will lead a comprehensive reinvigoration of our safety and quality programs across the entire health system.” 

Silvia Munoz-PriceAt Froedtert Health, Munoz-Price also served on the Quality Collaborative Oversight Committee, which analyzes data and quality outcomes for inpatient and ambulatory settings. Before joining Froedtert Health, Munoz-Price was medical director of the Department of Infection Control and Prevention at Jackson Health System in Miami, Florida.

Munoz-Price graduated medical school from the Universidad Peruana Cayetano Heredia in Lima, Peru, and received her Ph.D. in epidemiology from the University of Miami Miller School of Medicine in Miami. She is double-board certified in internal medicine and infectious disease and is currently pursuing a master’s degree in health care management at Johns Hopkins University.

Currently serving as associate editor for the trade publication Infection Control and Hospital Epidemiology, she is also the incoming treasurer for the Society of Hospital Epidemiologists of America.
