Becker’s Hospital Review recognized Matthew Jenkins, PharmD., vice president and chief pharmacy officer for VCU Health, as one of its 75 hospital and health system chief pharmacy officers to know for 2025. Since becoming VCU Health’s first chief pharmacy officer in 2023, Jenkins has been leading efforts to integrate pharmacy strategy into the health system’s mission.
“VCU Health’s pharmacy services are more robust, effective and patient-centered because of Dr. Jenkins’ leadership,” said Jim Willis, interim president of VCU Medical Center. “His undeniable dedication to improving access to medication has helped make our health system a leader in this area.”
As part of its recognition, Becker’s highlighted the strong performance and growth of the pharmacy team since Jenkins joined the health system in 2023. Of note, VCU Health’s specialty pharmacy program has expanded by more than 50%, while the ambulatory retail pharmacy has expanded by more than 30% and home delivery services have doubled since Jenkins was named chief pharmacy officer. His focus on patient access and transitional care also led to the development of a system-wide medication history initiative and enhanced meds-to-beds programs.
