When a patient calls you an angel, it’s pretty clear you did a great job. Katelyn Daniel, MRI Tech in Imaging, was called that by a patient she helped conquer the patient’s fear of having an MRI, earning the March Team Member Of The Month award for VCU Health Community Memorial Hospital.

The patient said, “I’m claustrophobic and I really thought I just couldn’t do it. My technologist, Katelyn, was truly and angel. She was soft spoken, she made sure I was comfortable, she gave me earphones and I listened to gospel music the whole time I was taking the test. When the test was finished I was in tears because that horrible fear was conquered. Katelyn was such an amazing blessing to me!”

Katelyn has been with VCU Health Community Memorial Hospital since 2016, when she began working part-time. She joined the Imaging Department full-time in 2018.

Wendy Lenhart, MAEL, Director of Radiology, is also a believer in Katelyn.

“Katelyn has been our only registered MRI tech and she has really flourished in her leadership skills,” Wendy said.  “Her knowledge in MR has expanded and she has accepted extra duties to assist with MRI accreditation. She took the lead as the magnet safety officer and has stepped up and worked extra weekend shifts. She has stayed over many days to complete MRIs.”

Katelyn studied Radiation Science at Southside Regional Medical Center and did her clinicals at CMH.

Katelyn said, “It’s important to work hard, stay positive, and always focus on being the best version of yourself. That mindset often influences those around you and creates a more pleasant work environment.” She also said Kim (Walker) and Wendy (Lenhart) are her mentors and they taught her to treat every patient like they are family.

Katelyn is engaged to Travis White and she has two dogs – Casper and Phoebe. She enjoys hanging out with friends and being outside.

Other employees who were nominated were: Lovellah Ballesteros, Tamara Clary, Brandi Harrell, Chasity Richardson and Mildred Waye of Acute Care; Sandra Noel of Administration; Tommy Pistolis of Food & Nutrition Services; Savanna Slayton of Labor & Delivery; and John Watson of Physical Therapy.

In addition to the award certificate, Katelyn received a STAR Service lapel pin, letter of commendation from Administration, a $40 gift certificate, and a parking place of her choice for the month.
