Biography

Leading the way in complex shoulder and elbow care 

Dr. N. Douglas Boardman is an expert in managing complex shoulder and elbow conditions, including shoulder and elbow arthritis, shoulder and elbow trauma, rotator cuff disease and tendinitis.

He helps his patients understand all their options, including non-surgical treatment. “I try where possible to manage patients without surgery,” he says. For patients who need surgery, Dr. Boardman specializes in primary and revision shoulder and elbow replacement, shoulder and elbow reconstruction, and minimally invasive shoulder and elbow arthroscopy. In his more than 25 years at VCU Health, he has created a robust Shoulder and Elbow service that has become a regional leader for managing shoulder and elbow disorders.

When Dr. Boardman is not treating patients, he enjoys fly fishing, dining out and spending time on his farm with his family.

Research Interests: Dr. Boardman’s research focuses on shoulder and elbow trauma and replacement.
