Richmond, VA (March 10, 2022) - After an extensive national search, James Siegel has been named chief financial officer of VCU Health System. Siegel has been serving in this role on an interim basis since June 2021.

Before assuming the chief financial officer role, Siegel served as vice president of financial planning and analysis for the health system. He joined VCU Health in April 2020, focusing on optimizing the enterprise’s financial performance, guiding internal and external strategic decision making and leading the system’s quarterly financial forecast update, as well as its long-term financial planning process.

“James has done an exemplary job leading us through financially challenging times, while positioning the system for financial success in the future,” said Art Kellermann, M.D., senior vice president for VCU Health Sciences and CEO of VCU Health System. “He exemplifies our values, and his depth of expertise and leadership will position us for success in the years to come.”

Before joining VCU Health, Siegel was vice president of finance and budget with Virginia Premier, where he drove significant improvement across finance operations. Prior to that, he spent 18 years holding increasingly progressive finance and operational leadership roles with Bon Secours.

Overall, he has more than 26 years of health care finance, audit accounting and operations experience, which includes working with KPMG, LLP, as well as the Virginia State Auditor’s Office. His leadership experience includes honorable service as a non-commissioned officer in the United States Army, serving in both Europe and Southwest Asia theaters.

"VCU Health has undergone many positive changes over the last several years that will continue to elevate the health system for decades,” Siegel said. “Witnessing the strength and compassion of the entire health system team and their unwavering commitment to patients and the community made it easy for me to say, ‘This is a health system and team I want to be a part of.’ I am humbled to continue my journey with a premier integrated academic health system rooted in such rich tradition and service to the Commonwealth.”

A native of Virginia, Siegel received his bachelor of science in business administration with a concentration in accounting from Longwood College, graduating cum laude. He is a licensed certified public accountant (CPA) in Virginia, as well as a certified internal auditor (CIA) and a Juran-certified Six Sigma Green Belt.
