Debby Allen earns Inpatient OB Certification

Debby Allen, RNC-OB, was recently awarded her Inpatient Obstetric Nursing Certification (RNC-OB) as an employee of the Garland Birthing Center at VCU Health Community Memorial Hospital.

“Obtaining my RNC-OB means the world to me,” Debby said. “It means that I am proficient to the utmost in my field of practice. I have taken the extra steps necessary to strive for excellence. When my patients have me as their nurse, they can rest assured that they will be receiving the best care available. Obtaining this certification keeps you on your toes and up-to-date with the best evidence-based practice.”

While Debby has been with the birthing center for almost a year, she brings 16 years of labor and delivery experience having worked previously at Maria Parham Health in her hometown of Henderson, NC.

“My favorite part of my job is being with my patients when they deliver their babies,” Debby said. “I love to see the look on the faces of the mother and dad when the baby is born. It is an emotional and beautiful experience.”

Debby is now working on a certification in Electronic Fetal Monitoring (C-EFM).

“Fetal surveillance is a vital component in all labor and delivery units. This is just the other half of the certification process for me in saying that I am striving to provide the safest care,” Debby said.

Debby lives in Henderson, NC along with her husband, Robert, and three children Kendra, Sha’ron, and Da’von.
