Biography

Dr. Sandra Balmoria is board certified in family medicine and earned her M.D. degree with an honors certificate in underserved medicine from VCU School of Medicine in Richmond, Virginia. She completed her residency at INOVA Fairfax Hospital. Balmoria is a member of the Society of Teachers of Family Medicine. She is the recipient of multiple awards, including one for practice recognition and another for community preceptorship. She has special interests in general pediatrics, women’s health, mental health, obesity and end-of-life care. She speaks English and Spanish fluently.

My husband who was also her patient had recently passed away, we had been married 50+ years, first part of appointment was spent making sure that I was dealing with everything and offered paths of assistance and support dealing with his loss. She has been very supportive from the point of his passing. Once we discussed all of this she discussed my health and issues and gave me information to help me. Would highly recommend her to people, actually the whole staff.

My 10-year-old daughter is just starting her cycle and we (she, Dr. Sandra and I) was talking about it and how she doesn't like it. My daughter also talked about wanting to play basketball, Dr. Sandra starts talking to my daughter about IUD's and other forms of birth control to stop her from having cycle. This upset me because one, she's 10 just getting started so of course she's not going to like having it. Also, I feel that Dr. Sandra should've discreetly said something to me before saying it out loud because that is something I feel my daughter and I should discuss amongst ourselves first. Just check with the parents or guardian discreetly beforehand.

The PCP was direct, informative & knowledgeable about my conditions. She was also opinionated and somewhat argumentative in getting the patient to express their concerns and cutting through B.S. This idiosyncrasies in her character has endeared me to work even more diligently with her to get myself healthier. I have total confidence in her abilities and look forward to future visits.
