Biography

A nurse with a passion for serving the community

Reena Cherian, DNP, FNP, brings a personal connection to the fight against liver disease.

“I lost many family members to alcoholic liver disease,” she says. “I realized that learning more about this preventable disease was the only way to help my family.”

As a nurse practitioner, Cherian is constantly learning new technologies and staying on top of discoveries in the field of hepatology as she cares for patients. And she’s passionate about serving the community, particularly areas that have less access to care.

Cherian focuses much of her efforts on helping eliminate viral hepatitis C. She also treats people who have hepatitis B, non-alcoholic and alcoholic fatty liver disease, cholestatic liver disease, autoimmune hepatitis, and other conditions.

“I like to listen to my patients,” she says. “Talking with them at their level is a crucial part of providing patient and family-centered care.”

Outside work, Cherian enjoys hiking, reading, raising chickens, and spending time with her family.

Advice to patients: Be honest about your diagnosis and the factors that contributed to it. Bring a willingness to understand the disease and be open with your provider.”
