Biography

Dr. Schuman specializes in the management of benign and malignant tumors, cerebrospinal fluid leaks and other problems of the nose, paranasal sinuses and skull base (junction of the brain and face).  Dr. Schuman holds dual appointments in the Departments of Otolaryngology - Head & Neck Surgery and Neurosurgery and co-leads the VCU Multidisciplinary Skull Base Program.  He has special expertise in cutting-edge, minimally invasive surgical approaches to the sinuses, skull base, brain and orbit (eye socket).  Dr. Schuman also treats patients with complex sinus inflammatory disease and nasal polyposis, including expanded and revision sinus surgery.

I had three concerns on my list, and even with excellent, comprehensive attention by my doctor to two of them, I did not take the initiative to ask about my third concern relating to sound exposure, because I'm kind of overwhelmed by my other pressing issues which take priority and time elsewhere (eg, pulmonary, thyroid nodules, cervical issues, polyuria not related to prostate nor likely anxiety but maybe my heart). I'm so grateful for this team of health care givers!

Extremely pleased with the length of time and consideration given to my recovery. Provider sat and listened to each concern with thorough explanation as well as expanding on subjects that I may not have fully understood. Provider gave praise to aftercare done right, as well as tips for the future. Pain was easily explained and tips for management adequately discussed. Dr. Schuman is an excellent doctor. I had been dealing with medical issues for a couple of years, and doctors were trying to discover what the cause was. When we figured out what was going on I was sent to Dr. Schuman. He is very kind and informed. He answered all of my questions, set up a treatment plan for me, and eventually performed a successful surgery on me. I am now attending follow-up apportionments and he is still courteous and keeping me informed about post-surgery care and where we go from here.
