Comprehensive, compassionate care for medically complex pregnancies
High-risk pregnancies bring uncertainty — and the need for careful, coordinated care. That’s why nurse practitioner Holly Moskowitz partners closely with patients and care teams to provide thoughtful, individualized care from preconception counseling through postpartum follow-up.
A women’s health nurse practitioner (WHNP) on the VCU Health Maternal Fetal Medicine team, Moskowitz specializes in high-risk maternal conditions including hypertension, diabetes, autoimmune and sickle cell diseases, multiple gestations and perinatal mental health disorders. She also collaborates with specialists across the health system to care for pregnancies complicated by fetal anomalies, helping ensure coordinated, evidence-based care during some of pregnancy’s most challenging moments.
At the center of Moskowitz’s practice is a commitment to advocacy and partnership. “High-risk pregnancy can feel overwhelming,” she says. “My goal is to help patients understand what’s happening, what their options are, and to remind them that they are not navigating this alone.”
Her approach emphasizes prevention, health promotion and carefully tailored care plans that reflect each patient’s medical needs, values and family goals.
“Every pregnancy is different,” she notes. “Listening closely allows us to create plans that support both maternal health and fetal wellbeing, medically and emotionally.”
Her advocacy for women extends beyond clinical settings, too. She has volunteered in the Middle East, Africa and Asia, and consistently seeks opportunities to support women’s health and wellbeing across cultures and communities. This global perspective informs her patient-centered approach and reinforces her commitment to equity, dignity, and respect in healthcare.
Moskowitz earned her master’s and bachelor’s degrees in nursing cum laude from Virginia Commonwealth University, where she was inducted into the Sigma Theta Tau International Honor Society of Nursing. She is also a Phi Beta Kappa graduate from Mary Baldwin College, holding bachelor’s degrees in religion and philosophy, and Asian studies. Her academic background includes study abroad in Israel and sign language acquisition research at the former Chimpanzee and Human Communication Institute. She is also a graduate of the Virginia Women’s Institute for Leadership, the world’s only all-female corps of cadets.
In addition to her clinical work, Moskowitz is committed to education and mentorship. In 2026, she served as a panelist for the Heart Matters Symposium, speaking about hypertension in pregnancy. She serves as a preceptor for nurse practitioner and physician assistant students and was previously an adjunct clinical assistant professor in the Department of Physician Assistant Studies at Clarkson University. She was also nominated for Clinician of the Year in 2023 and 2024 by fellow team members in recognition of her dedication to patient care and teaching.
Outside of work, Moskowitz enjoys traveling, photography and spending time with her daughter and her miniature goldendoodle.
