Helping women feel whole again — one conversation at a time
For women’s health and family nurse practitioner Beth Lamb, a focus on women’s health isn't just a profession — it's a calling that’s shaped her career since her first shift at VCU Health on Christmas Day 1988. What began as a student job in the postpartum unit evolved into more than three decades of compassionate, expert care for women navigating some of life’s most personal, and often unspoken, health challenges.
As a nurse practitioner with the multidisciplinary VCU Health Female Pelvic Medicine Reconstructive Surgery (urogynecology) team, Lamb specializes in treating pelvic organ prolapse, urinary and fecal incontinence, recurrent urinary tract infections and other urogynecologic conditions. She also provides routine gynecologic care, helping patients manage their reproductive health with dignity and confidence.
Lamb often manages non-surgical treatment options for overactive bladder and prolapse, integrating holistic treatments options including medication, referrals to pelvic floor physical therapy and nerve stimulation. She is also pursuing certification in hypnotherapy to add to her treatment toolbox as a way to offer relief for patients who may not benefit fully from traditional therapies.
“I value patient education and a caring attitude,” Lamb says. “I approach every patient with that same care and want them to feel heard, respected, empowered and informed. I strive to teach each woman about her body and how to best take care of it.”
In her nearly 40 years at VCU, Lamb has worn many hats — from bedside nurse to outpatient care coordinator to educator and mentor for future NPs.
A lifelong learner, Lamb earned her bachelor’s and master’s degrees in nursing, as well as a post-master’s certificate in family practice from VCU. She remains closely connected to the university through her work mentoring NP students and precepting clinical rotations. In addition to her clinical work, in the past, she has coordinated research efforts within the Urogynecology program, assisting with patient identification, data collection and surgical outcomes tracking. She is an active member of the Virginia Council of Nurse Practitioners, the nursing society Sigma Theta Tau International and the American Urogynecology Society (AUGS).
Lamb has lived in Virginia since she was 8 years old and grew up close to Richmond. She enjoys spending time with her family, reading, plants, gardening and going for walks with her dog.
