Biography

Dr. Layon is a fellowship-trained, board-certified orthopedic surgeon specializing in primary and revision hip and knee replacement. He has a particular interest in robotic assisted knee replacement and the treatment of failed joint replacements.

Dr. Layon’s philosophy is to work with each of his patients using both non-surgical treatments and surgical treatments to relieve pain, improve function and restore quality of life. He tries to understand the goals of each patient and how their hip or knee disorder prevents them from achieving those goals.

Dr. Layon graduated with honors (Alpha Omega Alpha) from Drexel University College of Medicine in Philadelphia, PA. He completed his residency in orthopaedic surgery at Virginia Commonwealth University Health System in Richmond Virginia, where he won awards for research and was selected to attend the American Orthopaedic Association Emerging Leaders course. Following residency, he completed his training in joint preservation, resurfacing, and replacement at the prestigious Washington University in St. Louis, Missouri, where he trained alongside internationally recognized surgeons and leaders in the fields of hip and knee replacement. During his fellowship, he also served as an attending orthopaedic surgeon at Barnes Jewish Hospital and the Veterans Administration Hospital in St. Louis, MO.

Dr. Layon’s research interests include patient optimization, the long term outcomes of hip replacements in young patients, and reducing complications in hip and knee replacement surgery. Dr. Layon is an active researcher and has authored textbook chapters on hip replacement and has published in leading, peer-reviewed journals such as The Journal of Arthroplasty and Arthroplasty Today. His research has been presented at regional and national meetings.
