Biography

Coordinating geriatric care and treating patients in the comfort of home

Dr. Abe Menon takes care of older adults wherever they are – at the hospital, in senior living communities and from the comfort of home.

Menon is part of VCU’s Center for Advanced Health Management, offering adult and geriatric patients a comprehensive offering of care, including primary care, home visits, behavioral and psychiatric counseling and more. Treating people at home offers patients a familiar setting, Menon says, and helps them avoid the hazards of hospitalization.

“As we get older, health needs could change and require a number of different medical providers working together. Our team aims to create smooth, seamless care from one provider to the other and ensure that this is well coordinated, no matter where you receive it,” Menon says.

Menon attended medical school in India before a residency at Loyola University Stritch School of Medicine in Chicago, along with a fellowship at the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai Hospital in New York, where he gained integrated subspecialty training in geriatric medicine as well as in hospice & palliative care.

The Center for Advanced Health Management is part of the VCU Division of Geriatric Medicine, a multi-faceted program led by physicians and nurse practitioners who work together to create a comprehensive program of education, research, administration and clinical care.

Advice to patients: “Speak with friends and family about what you believe is important for living life meaningfully and then explore how it relates to your current health circumstances.”
