Health and Wellness Library Program - Communicating COVID

11:00 AM  -  1:00 PM

The spread of misinformation about COVID-19 has in many ways paralleled the spread of the novel coronavirus. Misinformation travels through social media networks, insidiously leading to people making health decisions, sometimes fatal ones, based on incorrect information. Unfortunately, similar to there being no current treatment or cure for COVID-19, there remain no clear methods for combating misinformation.

Because of misinformation, beliefs about COVID-19 vary widely and often stray far from the truth. Never has the relationship between health literacy and media literacy been so visible and complicated, and at the center of the entanglement lies a challenging question: How can we all—health professionals and lay people alike—disseminate correct information about COVID-19 in ways that will be heard and accepted by people with competing beliefs derived from misinformation?

Join us as we discuss strategies, struggles and stories around communicating COVID information.

The event is free and open to all and will be broadcast live on YouTube. No registration required. For questions or accommodations, please contact the VCU Libraries Events Office at kimbrellgg@vcu.edu.
