Biography

A team player in caring for patients

As a surgeon treating patients with advanced lung disease, Dr. Lauren Taylor knows she is only one in a team of several doctors and specialists that each of her patients sees — which is the way it should be.

Taking care of a person requires a team,” she says. “We all have different areas of expertise that are valuable in treating those who have complex medical challenges.”

Dr. Taylor is a thoracic surgeon who sees many people living with lung cancer and end-stage lung disease; she’s there to provide a range of surgical options for treating their illness. Dr. Taylor, part of the cardiothoracic surgical team at the Pauley Heart Center, specializes in performing robotic surgeries that are less invasive and result in shorter hospital stays.

As an active researcher unlocking new insights in her field, Dr. Taylor’s work has appeared in the New England Journal of Medicine and many other research publications. One area she’s particularly interested in studying is how surgeons communicate with patients and their families about high-risk surgeries.

When not at work, Dr. Taylor enjoys running with her dog, spending time with her family, traveling, reading and puzzles.
