Biography

Dr. Ashley is a non-invasive cardiologist at the VCU Pauley Heart Center with special interest in preventative cardiovascular medicine and women’s cardiovascular medicine. She is also an assistant professor at VCU School of Medicine.

Originally from Eureka, Calif., Dr. Ashley was an assistant professor in the Department of Medicine at the Albuquerque Veterans Administration from 2001 to 2003 and then a non-invasive cardiologist with Oregon Cardiology P.C. from 2003 to 2011, working at both the Sacred Heart Medical Center in Eugene, Oregon, and the McKenzie-Willamette Hospital in Springfield, Oregon. Prior to joining VCU in 2014, she was a non-invasive cardiologist with Providence Cardiology Associates in Olympia, Washington.

Dr. Ashley has filled multiple leadership roles, serving as the medical co-director of the McKenzie- Willamette Hospital Intensive Care Unit; medical adviser to the Sacred Heart Women’s Cardiovascular Program and medical director of the Cardiac Rehabilitation, Wellness and Prevention Program at Sacred Heart Medical Center; and medical director of the Cardiac and Pulmonary Rehabilitation Program at Providence St. Peter Hospital in Olympia, Washington. While in Eugene, Oregon, she also served as the chair and co-chair of the American Heart Association “Go Red for Women” campaign and developed a local physician-led walking education program, “Walk with the Doc.”

Dr. Ashley has received numerous awards. She was named to the Alpha Omega Alpha medical honor society, was honored as the Top Cardiovascular Disease Specialist by the “Leading Physicians of the World” publication and was named among America’s Top Cardiologists in the 2006 edition of the “Guide to America’s Top Cardiologists” by the Consumers Research Council of America. Additionally, she has received many teaching awards.

Dr. Ashley’s work has been published in highly regarded cardiology textbooks, including “The Ultimate Echo Guide,” “The American Heart Association Clinical Cardiac Consult” and “Cardiovascular Pathophysiology.”

We have a total of 76 beds for hospitalized cardiac patients in our Cardiac Care, Cardiothoracic Surgery Care, Coronary Intensive Care and Cardiac Surgery Intensive Care Units. These state-of-the-art units are designed, equipped and managed to provide optimal care of patients with various cardiac conditions, from the most critically ill patients waiting for a transplant to those recovering from a heart attack or heart surgery.
