Biography

One of the top qualities in a surgeon, Dr. Victoria Kuester says, is to be a good listener. That's why, from the very first appointment, she pays close attention to each child and his or her parents or caregivers to understand their pain, needs, goals and concerns. "I believe that if we as surgeons are willing to take time to listen, think through the problem beforehand and explain everything, it helps us to better plan and prepare for surgery," she says.

In addition to common bone fractures and traumas (particularly in the active spring and summer months), Dr. Kuester cares for children with congenital deformities of the upper and lower body, musculoskeletal disorders, and scoliosis.

"I enjoy taking care of people's physical needs," says Dr. Kuester, regarded by patients, families, and colleagues for her kind, gentle approach to care. "There is no better feeling than seeing a child who was injured return to daily life or to their chosen sport, or to see arms or legs with congenital deformity straightened and functioning well. It is incredibly rewarding to see patients after surgery with smiling faces."

Dr. Kuester is board-certified by the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons and the Christian Medical and Dental Association, and is one of Richmond's "Top Doctors" for pediatric orthopaedics. She is an associate professor at the VCU School of Medicine's Department of Orthopaedic Surgery. Outside of her time at VCU Health, Dr. Kuester spends time with her husband and two boys and enjoys the outdoors, playing tennis and reading the Bible.

The doctor who saw my son had a very good bedside manner [...]

She followed up as she said she would.
May 2023
Good
April 2023
She seems very knowledgeable but felt rushed.
September 2022
She seems very rushed, and while I can appreciate the easy and simple explanation to the results of the appt, I prefer to have a more detailed discussion about the specifics of the condition and her perspective. Because we have many different providers treating my son, many other providers ask for specifics about his condition and I often don't have answers due to lack of information provided by Dr Keuster. Parents do need more than "looks good, this is what we want to see." Maybe ask "do you want more details as to why this look good?" Often times parents' minds are so full already due to the stress of even getting to the clinic on time with a disabled child in tow, we don't always think of what questions to ask if we get the general "any questions?" before the provider quickly exits. Also, she needs to address the actual child/patient and interact with them in a human level, not just address the parent.

Pretty good.
June 2022
Dr Kuester thought about the problem, took a look at an X-ray, how my child walked/stood and checked my child for underlying conditions. She was thoughtful Insightful courteous and I appreciate all that she did to care for my child.
May 2022
Dr. Kuester is wonderful.
March 2022
I believe she is a competent doctor but she has a tendency to speak in a condescending way.
February 2022
Length of time spent with provider was about 2 minutes waiting for almost 2 hours.
August 2021
Dr. Kuester is so knowledgeable, but also so respectful - letting kids talk, listening, & explaining in ways they can understand. We already recommend Dr. Kuester! She's AWESOME!
