Traffic Updates

Traffic signs and construction along road near MCV campusConstruction and related utility work at and around the VCU Health Outpatient Facility and Inpatient Children's Hospital sites will affect traffic patterns for drivers, bicyclists and pedestrians on the MCV Campus for several months. Please take note of the traffic impacts below and plan your travel accordingly so you arrive safely and on time.

Traffic Alerts


Nov. 18 to June 30, 2020

  • A scaffolding system will be installed on the sidewalk at the corner of the Emergency Department drive and 12th Street.
  • Work activities will take place from 6 p.m. to 4 a.m.
  • There will not be any lane/street closures. A spotter will be assigned to ensure work activities do not impact any traffic coming into the Emergency Department.
  • Bike racks on the ED Drive will be relocated to the Ambulatory Care Center and McGuire Hall.
     

Wednesday, Nov. 20 from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.

  • 11th Street, between Broad and Marshall streets, will be reduced to one lane for City of Richmond utility work.
  • VCU Police will be on site to assist with traffic control during this time.
     

Friday, Nov. 22 at 8 p.m. through Sunday, Nov. 24 at 7 p.m. *Note: This is a REVISION - impacts have changed

  • 10th Street, between Broad and Marshall streets, will be closed.
  • 10th Street, between Broad and Leigh streets, will be closed.
  • Marshall Street, between 9th and 11th streets, will be closed.
  • The bus lane on Broad Street will be closed.
  • The Children's Pavilion will be closed to all team members and patients during this time.

 

Sunday, Dec. 8 from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m.

  • Clay Street, between 10th and 11th streets, will be closed for The Valentine's 33rd annual Court End Christmas event.

 

Ongoing

  • Mass excavation will be ongoing through Jan. 10, 2020 at the Inpatient Children's Hospital site, with approximately 200 trucks entering and exiting the site every day.
  • For your safety, please follow all detour signs and be mindful of construction crews/vehicles as you travel through this area.
     
  • The southbound lane of Duval Street, between 10th St. and the Visitor Parking Deck exit, is closed.
  • Team members needing access to D Deck can enter at the intersection of 13th and Marshall streets.
  • When exiting D Deck, vehicles have the option to turn right onto Duval St. or use 13th St. and Marshall St.
  • The southbound sidewalk on Duval St., between 10th St. and the Visitors Parking Deck exit, is also closed.
  • Detour signs are posted to direct drivers of alternate routes. VCU Police are on site to assist with traffic control at the intersection of 13th and Marshall streets.
     
  • Two lanes of Marshall St., between 10th and 11th streets, as well as the sidewalk, are closed.
  • One eastbound and one westbound lane of Marshall St. has been maintained.
  • RMC Security are on site to assist with pedestrian and traffic control at the intersection of Marshall and 11th streets.
  • VCU Police are making extra rounds during peak times at the intersection of Marshall and 11th streets.
     
  • The sidewalk of 11th St. (Children's Pavilion side of street), between Broad and Marshall streets, is closed to midblock.
  • For your safety, please follow detour signs and use the marked crosswalks at the intersection of Broad and 11th streets.
     
  • Two northbound lanes of 10th St., between Broad and Marshall streets, are closed.
  • One northbound and one southbound lane have been maintained.
     
  • The northbound lane of 10th St., between Marshall and Leigh streets, is closed.
     
  • The parking lane on 11th St., between Clay and Leigh streets, is now utilized as a travel lane for the remainder of construction of the Outpatient Facility.
  • 11th Street will continue to be open to two lanes of through traffic between Clay and Leigh streets.
     
  • "No Turn on Red" signs have been installed at the intersection of 11th and Leigh streets.
     
  • The sidewalks on 10th and 11th streets, between Clay and Leigh streets, have been closed to pedestrians for the duration of the construction of the VCU Health Outpatient Facility. For your safety, please follow detours in this area.
