Need help

Urgent and ongoing traffic alerts

Construction and related utility work at and around the VCU Health Adult Outpatient Pavilion and Children's Hospital of Richmond at VCU sites will affect traffic patterns for drivers, bicyclists and pedestrians on the MCV Campus. Please take note of the traffic impacts below and plan your travel accordingly so you arrive safely and on time.

Sign up for text message alerts to receive updates and urgent information about MCV Campus traffic impacts. Traffic updates

Upcoming traffic considerations   

Jan. 10 – March 5

  • E. Marshall St. is reduced to one lane in front of the Gateway Building, between 11th and 12th streets.
  • Traffic heading west on E. Marshall St. is detoured at 12th St. unless entering the Gateway Circle (valet loop).
  • Gateway Circle (valet loop) exit traffic can ONLY make a left-hand turn.
  • The Nelson Clinic garage entrance and exit is closed.
  • Pedestrian traffic is being redirected. Please follow all pedestrian detours in this area.
  • Flaggers are present to direct traffic, detour signage is in place and VCU Police are onsite to monitor and direct traffic as needed.
  • Please allow extra time for travel when accessing the VCU Health MCV Campus.
  • VCU Health Team Members: When traveling eastbound on E. Marshall St. to the D Deck parking deck, please use Duval St. as an alternative to limit traffic on E. Marshall St.

Saturday, Feb. 27, from 8 a.m. to 7:30 p.m.

  • All lanes of E. Marshall St., between 12th and 13th streets, will be closed.
  • Flaggers, detour signage and VCU Police will be onsite to direct traffic as needed.

Saturday, Feb. 27, from 7 a.m. to 2 p.m.

  • The Valentine Museum will be closing E. Clay St., between 10th and 11th streets.

March 4 at 7 p.m. – March 8 at 6 a.m.

  • Both northbound lanes of 11th St., between Clay and Leigh streets, will be closed.
  • Both eastbound lanes of E. Leigh St., between 10th and 11th streets, will be closed.
  • The westbound turning lane of E. Leigh St. will be open for eastbound traffic.
  • Flaggers, detour signage and VCU Police will be onsite to direct traffic.

Ongoing traffic considerations

  • 11th St., between Broad and Marshall streets, is reduced to one lane through Nov. 30, 2021.
  • Exits out of the Children's Pavilion are not affected. Detour signage is in place.

  • The sidewalk on 11th St. (Children's Pavilion side of street), between Broad and Marshall streets, is closed to midblock.
  • For your safety, please follow detour signs and use the marked crosswalk at the intersection of Broad and 11th streets.

  • Two lanes of E. Marshall St., between 10th and 11th streets, are closed.
  • One eastbound and one westbound lane have been maintained.
     
  • Two northbound lanes of 10th St., between Broad and Marshall streets, are closed.
  • One northbound and one southbound lane have been maintained.  
     
  • The northbound lane of 10th St., between Marshall and Leigh streets, is closed.  
     
  • The parking lane on 11th St., between Clay and Leigh streets, is now utilized as a travel lane for the remainder of construction of the Adult Outpatient Pavilion.
  • 11th Street will continue to be open to two lanes of through traffic between Clay and Leigh streets.  
     
  • "No Turn on Red" signs have been installed at the intersection of 11th and Leigh streets.

  • The westbound sidewalk on Marshall St., between 12th and 13th streets, is closed through April 3, 2021. Detour signage is in place.
