Urgent and ongoing traffic alerts

Construction and related utility work at and around the VCU Health Adult Outpatient Pavilion and Children's Hospital of Richmond at VCU sites will affect traffic patterns for drivers, bicyclists and pedestrians on the MCV Campus. Please take note of the traffic impacts below and plan your travel accordingly so you arrive safely and on time.

Traffic updates

Oct. 20 - Nov. 24, 2021

  • The slip ramp onto southbound 10th St. from eastbound Leigh St. will be closed.
  • Detour signage will be in place.

Friday, Oct. 29, at 8 p.m. - Monday, Nov. 1, at 4 a.m.

  • The following street closures will be in effect:
    • Eastbound Broad St., between 12th and 8th streets
    • Westbound Broad St., between College and 9th streets
    • 10th St., between Broad and Marshall streets
    • 11th St., between Broad and Marshall streets
    • Marshall St., between 12th and 13th streets
  • The Children's Pavilion will be closed to ALL team members and patients during this time.
  • The VCU Medical Center Gateway Building and Gateway Circle (valet loop) will remain open and accessible.
  • VCU Police will be onsite to assist and direct traffic. Detour signage will be in place. 
  • Please exercise caution, follow all detour signage and allow extra time for travel when coming to the MCV Campus.

 

  • Through March 31, 2022: E. Marshall St. is reduced to one (1) eastbound lane between 11th and 12th streets.
    • The Gateway Circle (valet loop) remains open and accessible.
    • The sidewalk on the north side of E. Marshall St. (Nelson Clinic side of street) is closed to all pedestrians. Please follow all pedestrian detour signage.
    • Flaggers are onsite to direct traffic, detour signage is in place and VCU Police are monitoring the area. Please exercise caution in this area, follow all detour signage and allow extra time for travel when coming to the VCU Medical Center Gateway Building.
    • Team members: When traveling to the D Deck parking deck, please use Duval St. as an alternative to limit traffic on E. Marshall St.

  • Through spring 2022: The Nelson Clinic garage is closed and not accessible. Commercial transport pickup and drop-off is relocated to the Ambulatory Care Center, 417 N. 11th St.

  • Through Nov. 30, 2021: N. 11th St., between Broad and Marshall streets, is reduced to one (1) lane. Exits out of the Children's Pavilion are not affected. Detour signage is in place.

  • The sidewalk on N. 11th St. (Children's Pavilion side of street), between Broad and Marshall streets, is closed to midblock. For your safety, please follow detour signs and use the marked crosswalk at the intersection of Broad and 11th streets.

  • Two lanes of E. Marshall St., between 10th and 11th streets, are closed. One (1) eastbound and one (1) westbound lane have been maintained.

  • Two northbound lanes of 10th St., between Broad and Marshall streets, are closed. One (1) northbound and one (1) southbound lane have been maintained.

  • The northbound lane of 10th St., between Marshall and Leigh streets, is closed.

  • "No Turn on Red" signs have been installed at the intersection of 11th and Leigh streets.

  • Through Dec. 23, 2021: The westbound sidewalk on Marshall St., between 12th and 13th streets, is closed. Detour signage is in place.
