Urgent and ongoing traffic alerts

Construction and related utility work at and around the Children's Hospital of Richmond at VCU Wonder Tower construction site will affect traffic patterns for drivers, bicyclists and pedestrians on the MCV Campus. Please take note of the traffic impacts below and plan your travel accordingly so you arrive safely and on time.

Traffic updates


Friday, May 13 at 9 p.m. - Monday, May 16 at 5 a.m.

  •  E. Marshall St., between 10th and 12th streets, will be closed.
  • 11th St., between Broad and Clay streets, will be closed.
  • The VCU Medical Center Gateway Building valet loop will be closed to vehicles; pedestrians will be able to enter and exit.
  • Patient discharges will be directed to the ground floor of North Hospital.
  • Late valet pickups before 11 p.m. will pick up vehicles at the back of the Gateway Building, along ED drive.
  • Late valet pickups after 11 p.m. will pick up vehicles at the top of the VCU Medical Center Visitor Parking Deck (near the Critical Care Hospital entrance).
  • Detour signage will be in place.

 

  • Long-term VDOT closure

    • The southbound lanes of N. 7th St., between Hospital and Jackson streets, are closed.
    • Detour signage is in place to direct traffic around the work zone.
    • Long-term shoulder closures on I-95 will be required to accommodate the work under the bridge.
    • Additionally, temporary overnight lane closures will be implemented on I-95.

  • Through spring 2022: The Nelson Clinic garage is closed and not accessible. Commercial transport pickup and drop-off is relocated to the Ambulatory Care Center, 417 N. 11th St.

  • N. 11th St., between Broad and Marshall streets, is reduced to one (1) lane. Exits out of the Children's Pavilion are not affected.

  • The sidewalk on N. 11th St. (Children's Pavilion side of street), between Broad and Marshall streets, is closed to midblock. For your safety, please follow detour signs and use the marked crosswalk at the intersection of Broad and 11th streets.
