Ongoing Education

Creating better lives, brighter futures, through education.

Our commitment to education means that we are making an impression – and an investment – in our workforce and in our community. We want our team members to pursue – and achieve – their academic goals, whether that means earning a bachelor’s degree, master’s degree, Ph.D. or advanced certification. We also want them to enhance their personal knowledge base through targeted educational offerings, As Central Virginia’s only academic medical center and as part of Virginia’s largest public university, our commitment to education amounts to more than a benefit to working here. It’s our way of life.

Education Assistance for Team members

Full-time team members may take up to $10,000 of education assistance towards a bachelor’s degree each fiscal year. Team members seeking graduate degrees may use up to $15,000 of education assistance per fiscal year. Highlights of EdAssist include free education counseling, access to discounts and 24/7 support.

Education Assistance for Dependents

Team members' dependents may take up to 12 credit hours per year (six per semester) at Virginia Commonwealth University. All credit hours are paid for in advance, which keeps out-of-pocket expenses for our team members to a minimum.

Education and Professional Development

From orientation to simulation to grand rounds and conferences, team members may participate in instructor-led learning opportunities and online learning through The Learning Exchange. Additionally, five-year accreditation was granted to our UHC Post-baccalaureate Nurse Residency Program by the Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education (CCNE), making VCU Health one of only 16 accredited programs in the nation. And we established a training program for staff on the Unique Pathogen Unit to ensure consistency and competency in donning/doffing personal protection equipment.

Financial Literacy Workshops

Team members may take advantage of our personal finance workshops addressing fundamental practices for effective money management. The workshops are free and open to team members and their guests. Classes are also offered to help teens with money management.

Training and Development

Our Training and Development team offer team members more than 250 high-quality educational programs. Group sessions are open to all team members and focused on skills development based on our organizational core values and our culture of STAR Service. Many customized classes were also offered.
