Pain Management

Your anesthesiologist, surgeon and nurse will talk with you about the best ways to relieve pain after surgery.

You may find this brochure helpful too.

Pain relief is important because it helps you:

  • Breathe more easily
  • Move more easily
  • Sleep well
  • Recover faster
  • Eat better
  • Do things that are important to you
  • Do your suggested exercises.

Do not wait until the pain gets too bad before telling us.

Always tell your nurse if your pain score is greater than 4 on the pain scale (where 0 is no pain and 10 is pain as bad as you can imagine)

You will not become addicted to pain medication given for a short period for surgical pain.
