We have a long and prestigious history within the central Virginia region for our urological care. Our division, along with our association with the long-standing Medical College of Virginia, has provided care to patients from the Mid-Atlantic region for multiple generations.

One of the most exciting things about VCU Urology is our commitment to cutting-edge laparoscopic and robotic surgery. Using the daVinci surgical robot, our surgeons are able to perform highly skilled and precise operations through small incisions. We are unique to this region in that we have two board certified fellowship trained robotic surgeons.

The mission of the VCU Division of Urology is to provide culturally competent care in an efficient and timely manner, as well as to educate patients and those within their support system in order to maintain and promote their well-being.

Our faculty represent the best and brightest from multiple subspecialties within urology.  All of our faculty are board certified through the American Board of Urology and represent subspecialty interests including oncology, pediatrics, female and neurourology, and minimally-invasive surgery.  Many of our faculty are also directly involved with the pursuit of state-of-the-art scientific research.  Our research has been published in numerous peer-reviewed publications.

Providing surgical options for patients

The Division of Urology offers comprehensive surgical options and procedures for our patients including cryosurgery, endoscopic surgery, laser surgery, microwave therapy, radiofrequency ablation, robotic surgery, laparoscopic surgery and lithotripsy for kidney stones.

The division also provides office procedures such as prostate biopsy and ultrasound, urodynamic procedures and cystoscopy. Partnering with the VCU Massey Cancer Center in the Urologic Tumor Center, as well as with the Department of Obstetrics & Gynecology allows us to provide state-of-the art treatment for out patients.

Members of the faculty of the Division of Urology are actively involved in clinical and basic science research projects. In addition, we work directly with two laboratories investigating bladder smooth muscle physiology and urologic tissue engineering.
