The mission of the Division of Pediatric Surgery is to provide superb surgical care to all children, provide the highest level of education and training to medical students and residents, and develop a well-funded and nationally recognized research effort.

The pediatric surgeons at Children's Hospital of Richmond at VCU specialize in diagnosis and preoperative, operative and postoperative management of a wide variety of surgical problems in children — from fetal patients to adolescents — for conditions ranging from common inquinal hernias to surgical separation of conjoined twins.

From routine, same-day outpatient surgeries to complex, delicate procedures our surgeons utilize the most current, most effective methods in caring for your child. These include robot-assisted surgery and advanced minimally invasive surgical procedures.

Children's Trauma Center

Children's Hospital of Richmond at VCU is the only Level 1 pediatric trauma center in Virginia. This special designation means CHoR has the capability of providing leadership and total care for every aspect of injury, from prevention through rehabilitation. CHoR is one of only 39 other such centers across the country that demonstrate the highest level of patient care, education and research.
