What is compliance?
Compliance, in its simplest form, is the act of meeting the expectations of others. For health care organizations, compliance programs focus on compliance with fraud and abuse laws, Medicare and Medicaid billing requirements, and third party payer regulations.

What does VCU Health Audit and Compliance Services do?
VCU Health Audit and Compliance Services works to foster a culture where all affiliated individuals identify and accept responsibility for compliance within the health system. Compliance Services provides education, monitors and performs audits, and serves as a central resource for compliance information and resources for the health system.

What types of concerns should I report to the Compliance Services? 

  • Any violations of the health system's Code of Ethics, Standards of Professional Conduct and any other policies and procedures
  • Fraud of any kind
  • Patient privacy concerns
  • Conflicts of interest

Can anyone retaliate if I file a complaint? 
No. VCU Health has a zero tolerance policy against any retaliation. Any reports or complaints submitted will be handled with the utmost integrity and confidentiality.

What are my basic responsibilities as a VCU Health team member?
As a VCU Health team member, you have various responsibilities which include:

  • Attend applicable training sessions

What are the training requirements for VCU Health team member? 
New employees are required to attend VCU Health's Compliance Orientation. Additionally, employees will be notified if the need to complete the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act
(HIPAA) training. Employees are also required to attend annual compliance training. 

How many days do I have to complete my new employee compliance orientation training? 
New employees must sign their Integrity Agreement Form within five (5) days of the start day of employment. Designated employees should complete the HIPAA on-line training within 30 days of their date of hire.
