Patsy Logan had her first heart valve replacement in 1977 due to a severe illness as a child. As her heart began to fail, other hospitals gave her very few options and little hope for survival. So Patsy went to VCU where they used a ventricular assist device to keep her heart pumping for nine months while they waited for a heart to become available.
