How to Read and Understand Food Labels

defaultNewsImage

Community Out-Reach Education

Understanding food labels can help you make wise choices and it is a big step toward eating healthier.  Learning how to read food labels will let you distinguish between healthful products and the ones you’ll want to leave on the shelf.  What is the percent daily value based on?  What words should you look out for that mean sugar?  What’s the most important number on a food label?

If you are seeking answers to questions like these you should attend March’s C.O.R.E. (Community Out-Reach Education) Program at VCU Health Community Memorial Hospital to learn more about what is really in your food.

This FREE program will be on Tuesday, March 21st at 4:00 p.m. in the VCU Health CMH Education Center Auditorium at 125 Buena Vista Circle in South Hill.

Meagan Waller, RDN, will be the speaker for the program.  Meagan is a clinical dietitian at VCU Health CMH. She received her Bachelors of Science Degree in Nutritional Sciences from Penn State University in Pennsylvania and completed her dietetic internship at the University of Oklahoma Health Sciences Center in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma.

Reservations are not required for this program; however, they are recommended.  For more information or to register to attend, please call (434) 774-2550 or visit www.vcu-cmh.org.  Entrance to the VCU Health CMH Education Center Auditorium is to the left of the main hospital entrance.
