Digital Mammography

We offer a dedicated Mammography program, accredited by the FDA and the American College of Radiology.  As a Pink Ribbon facility, VCU-CMH offers digital mammography on the Hologic Selenia digital imaging system along with the R2 CAD. CAD systems are utilized and designed to assist Radiologists with mammography screening and aid in the detection of breast cancer.  We also offer various options for breast biopsy and Bone Density Testing.

The VCU-CMH Radiology Staff is proud to be a part of the health care team dedicated to early diagnosis and treatment of disease in Southside Virginia.

We now offer the latest technology in women’s breast imaging, digital mammography. Digital mammography provides precise and detailed images, which means quicker results since there is no film to develop. The images can be viewed instantly and transferred electronically to the radiologist, reducing wait time for you and your doctor to receive test results.

Screening mammography - consist of two views of each breast in patients who have no abnormal breast symptoms.

Diagnostic mammography - for patients with abnormal breast symptoms or who had a screening mammogram reveal a breast abnormality or suspicion. Also for patients who have breast implants.

Now Offering Self Requested Mammograms

In order to enhance direct patient access to VCU Health Community Memorial Hospital’s screening mammography services; beginning April 1, 2016, patients can schedule their screening mammogram without a physician’s order.  Patients should call (434) 584-5205 and speak with one of VCU Health CMH’s Patient Access Representatives to schedule an exam.

Callers should be prepared to provide information including their regular health care provider, when and where their last mammogram was performed and insurance information. It is also important for patients to inform VCU Health CMH of their regular health care provider so the hospital will know where to send the screening results.

If a potential patient does not have a regular healthcare provider to send their results to, they can choose from our list of providers.  Patients currently experiencing problems or with a history of breast cancer will still require a physician’s order to schedule their diagnostic mammogram.  Our Mammography department is accredited by the American College of Radiology (ACR) and ready to provide the residents of southside Virginia and northern North Carolina with their breast imaging needs.
