Need help

Urgent and ongoing traffic alerts

Construction and related utility work at and around the VCU Health Outpatient Pavilion and Inpatient Children's Hospital sites will affect traffic patterns for drivers, bicyclists and pedestrians on the MCV Campus for several months. Please take note of the traffic impacts below and plan your travel accordingly so you arrive safely and on time.

Traffic updates


Monday, Feb. 24 through May 15, 2020

  • The intersection of 10th and Leigh streets will be closed to northbound traffic.
  • This three-month-long closure will shut down all through traffic northbound on 10th Street, between E. Leigh St. and Turpin St. 
  • Vehicular traffic turning from Leigh Street onto 10th Street will be rerouted to 9th and Turpin streets to access 10th Street, the N Deck entrance and VCU Health Family Care Center, 607 N. 10th St.
  • Child care parking will remain in the Q Lot on 10th Street until completion of the project.
  • VCU Police will be on site during peak traffic hours to assist with traffic control at the intersections of 10th and Turpin streets and 10th and Leigh streets.

Ongoing traffic considerations

  • Two lanes of Marshall St., between 10th and 11th streets, as well as the sidewalk, are closed.
  • One eastbound and one westbound lane of Marshall St. has been maintained.
     
  • RMC Security are on site to assist with pedestrian and traffic control at the intersection of Marshall and 11th streets.
  • VCU Police are making extra rounds during peak times at the intersection of Marshall and 11th streets.  
     
  • The sidewalk of 11th St. (Children's Pavilion side of street), between Broad and Marshall streets, is closed to midblock.
  • For your safety, please follow detour signs and use the marked crosswalks at the intersection of Broad and 11th streets.  
     
  • Two northbound lanes of 10th St., between Broad and Marshall streets, are closed.
  • One northbound and one southbound lane have been maintained.  
     
  • The northbound lane of 10th St., between Marshall and Leigh streets, is closed.  
     
  • The parking lane on 11th St., between Clay and Leigh streets, is now utilized as a travel lane for the remainder of construction of the Adult Outpatient Pavilion.
  • 11th Street will continue to be open to two lanes of through traffic between Clay and Leigh streets.  
     
  • "No Turn on Red" signs have been installed at the intersection of 11th and Leigh streets.  
     
  • The sidewalks on 10th and 11th streets, between Clay and Leigh streets, have been closed to pedestrians for the duration of the construction of the VCU Health Outpatient Pavilion. For your safety, please follow detours in this area.  
     
  • There is increased pedestrian traffic on 10th St., between Leigh and Duval streets, as parents and their children travel to and from the daycare through May 2020.
  • A temporary light tower has been installed and will be illuminated during the morning and evening hours to assist with visibility.
  • Please drive slowly and exercise extreme caution when traveling on 10th St., being mindful of pedestrians crossing the street.
     
  • The southbound lane of Duval Street, between 10th St. and the Visitor Parking Deck exit, is closed.
  • Team members needing access to D Deck can enter at the intersection of 13th and Marshall streets.
  • When exiting D Deck, vehicles have the option to turn right onto Duval St. or use 13th St. and Marshall St.
  • The southbound sidewalk on Duval St., between 10th St. and the Visitors Parking Deck exit, is also closed.
  • Detour signs are posted to direct drivers of alternate routes. VCU Police are on site during peak hours to assist with traffic control at the intersection of 13th and Marshall streets.

For your safety, please follow street and pedestrian detour signs through these areas and allow extra time for travel. We apologize for any inconvenience as we work to improve our campus.
