Primary Benefits
- Resources that might
not have been easily accessible to women of color, particularly
those without health insurance or with limited incomes, were
made available through community-based health centers.
- Richmond area health
center staff received training on using the Internet to find
useful health information to support their patients. Special
efforts were made to link materials written in Spanish and materials
written for those with low reading levels, as these materials
are not always readily available to community-based health centers.
- Public librarians
throughout the region received training on finding Web-based
resources to assist their consumers, including MEDLINEplus and
PubMed. Librarians are now more comfortable assisting consumers
with health-related information requests, and know they can
contact librarians at a local academic medical center.
- Patients are learning more about their
health as a result of this contract.
