Overview
Virginia Treatment Center for Children (VTCC) is proud to have a Virginia State
Department of Education funded program located at our facility. The school program
provides the academic instruction for the children and adolescents admitted to VTCC's
inpatient programs. The school curriculum for each grade level is based on the Virginia
Standards of Learning. Our education program is individualized to fit the needs of each
student and can accommodate Individual Educational Plans (IEPs) as well as Section
504 plans. All VTCC teachers are
licensed and certified in Special Education with endorsements in Emotional
Disturbance and/or Learning Disabilities. At this Virginia Department of
Education State Operated Program, children and adolescents admitted to the
Residential or Day Treatment programs can be referred internally for eligibility
determination for special education services. The School Program operates on a public school calendar and
offers a limited summer program from late June through August.
Vision Statement:
Provide leadership in addressing the academic and social potential of each child
through the development of collaborative services with VTCC's treatment programs,
community mental health services, and local public school divisions.
Principles:
- We believe that all children have the potential to learn.
- We believe that learning basic skills about the world, others, and ourselves increases
self-esteem.
- We believe in the uniqueness of each child and accepting of where each child is
emotionally, socially, and academically to build realistically towards his/her future.
- We believe in helping children learn through their strengths.
- We believe in working with families, communities, and home schools to provide a sound
foundation for learning to take place as well as helping with a smooth transition to a
future-learning environment
