Overview
The Residential Treatment Program is one of the three inpatient programs
available at Virginia Treatment Center for Children. Residential Treatment is a year-round
program designed to provide both therapeutic and educational services to children and
adolescents who have long standing emotional and/or behavioral difficulties and have not
responded to less restrictive treatments. The program provides a 24-hour therapeutic
environment and is staffed by a multidisciplinary team of mental health
professionals. The focus of the Intermediate Care Programs is family and community reintegration.
Treatment strongly emphasizes improving coping and life skills to help the
child/adolescent make a successful transition back to the community.
Ages of Children Served
The Residential Treatment Program serves Children and adolescents ages school
age through 17.

The Residential Treatment Program approach at VTCC is multidisciplinary in focus with a
team of professionals working in an integrated fashion to help each patient reach his/her
full potential. Team members include:
- A Child and Adolescent Psychiatrist

- Educational Case Managers

Transition to Community
A thoughtful transition plan is developed to by our Treatment Team to facilitate the
young person's reentry to his/her community school placement. Consultation from our
Treatment Team is available to community teachers and other involved professionals to help
maximize the young person's adjustment.
