VTCC Advisory Council
A Mission Of Caring
At Virginia Treatment
Center for Children (VTCC), we believe that each child deserves the best treatment
possible. We believe that families deserve respect and compassion. We also believe that
parents deserve to have a voice in their child's care--from the initial evaluation to a
participating role in treatment. VTCC maintains a liberal visitation policy for patients
hospitalized at our facility. Family members and/or guardians are encouraged to visit and
participate in the child/adolescent's treatment. VTCC offers a broad spectrum of
psychiatric services for children, adolescents, and their families, and works to improve
the mental health of all Virginians through patient care, education, and research.

A Proud History
Virginia Treatment Center for Children (VTCC) has been providing mental health services
to the children, adolescents, and families of Virginia for more than 40 years. VTCC was
created in 1962 by the Virginia Legislature to provide state-of-the-art service, training
and research in the field of child mental health. Once a state-operated children's
psychiatric hospital, in 1991 VTCC became the Division of Child and Adolescent Psychiatry
at Virginia's pre-eminent VCU Medical Center. VTCC continues to work to improve the mental health of all
Virginians by providing inpatient and outpatient care, professional training and
development, and conducting research in areas of current and emerging interest in the
child mental health.
