Overview

The Day Treatment Program is one of the Intermediate Care Programs available at Virginia Treatment Center for Children. Day Treatment is a year-round program designed to provide both therapeutic and educational services to children and adolescents whose emotional and/or behavioral difficulties interfere with participation in their community, but are not so severe that the child requires 24-hour supervision.

Ages of Children Served:

Children and adolescents ages 5 -17 may be appropriate for this program in lieu of regular school placement, or as a transitional step-down from acute or residential psychiatric hospitalization.

Hours of Operation

The Day Treatment Program usually operates between the hours of 8:00 a.m. and 4:00 p.m., Monday through Friday.

Day Treatment Team Members:

The Day Treatment approach at VTCC is multidisciplinary in focus with a team of professionals working in an integrated fashion to help each patient reach his/her full potential. Team members include:

  • A Child and Adolescent Psychiatrist Program Director
  • Clinical Psychologist
  • Clinical Social Worker
  • Psychiatric Nurses
  • Special Education Teachers
  • Educational Case Managers
  • Assistant Team Leader
  • Art, Music, Occupational, and Recreational Therapists

Services offered in the Day Treatment Program include:

  • Medical Management and Nursing Care
  • Behavior Management
  • Psychological Evaluations
  • Group Therapy
  • Parent Support and Education
  • Recreational, Art, Music, and Occupational Therapy

  • Monthly Treatment Plan Reviews

Transition to Community

A thoughtful transition plan is developed to by our Treatment Team to facilitate the young person's reentry to his/her community school placement. Consultation from our Treatment Team is available to community teachers and other involved professionals to help maximize the young person's adjustment.
