Overview

The acute care program offers 24 hours admission, seven days a week. In addition, emergency services for psychiatric evaluation are available through The VCU Medical Center emergency room. The acute program provides the greatest degree of structure and intensity for children and adolescents in need of short-term intensive inpatient treatment. The clinicians at VTCC strive to quickly stabilize the patient and return him/her back to their community. The treatment team works with the family to provide a smooth transition, from the hospital, back to the family, school and community environment. The average length of stay for an acute hospitalization is four to seven days.
