Safe Kids Virginia

On June 24, 2008, Safe Kids Virginia partnered with the lead agency VCU Children’s Medical Center and the VCU Health System Pediatric Residents to provide the ninth annual summer safety fair for children. During the four-hour event, children received education about the following safety issues: water, pedestrian, car seat and safety belt, poisonings, abuse and head trauma. The children also enjoyed the opportunity to climb in an ambulance and speak with City of Richmond fire fighters while looking in their truck. In addition, children who were in need received a bicycle helmet with education on how to properly wear a helmet to protect themselves. Finally, all children received a nutritious snack, drink and an opportunity to play in the moon walk. Thanks to the entertainers, Peek-a-Boo the clown and Radio Disney. It was a fun and educational opportunity that was enjoyed by more than 500 children from Richmond and the surrounding communities.
