The Hume-Lee Transplant Center is the largest liver transplant program in the Commonwealth of Virginia (ustransplant.org). The program began in 1964 and was restarted in 1984. Over 775 patients have received liver transplants at VCU Medical Center since 1984. Pre and post transplant morbidity and mortality are among the lowest in the country. Our transplant team is dedicated to evaluate and treat patients who may be denied the option of liver transplantation elsewhere in the country.

The Liver Transplant Program offers:

  • Deceased donor liver transplant (previously known as cadaveric liver transplant)
  • Living donor liver transplant (living related, unrelated and Good Samaritan)

In the following pages you will find information regarding liver transplantation. You may also download our complete patient guide for offline reading. Requires the Adobe Acrobat Reader available HERE.
