The Hume-Lee Transplant Center has created one of the nation's most successful kidney transplant programs. We have transplanted more than 1800 patients since 1967 and performed more than 100 kidney transplants a year, based on organ availability. Kidney transplantation is not a cure for End Stage Renal Disease (ESRD), but an alternative treatment choice for your kidney disease. The other options include hemodialysis and peritoneal dialysis.

The Kidney Transplant Program offers:

  • Deceased donor kidney transplant (previously known as cadaveric kidney transplant).
  • Living donor kidney transplant (living related and living unrelated).
  • Living donor paired exchange (also called living donor swap)
  • Living/deceased donor exchange
  • Simultaneous pancreas-kidney (SPK) transplants (both organs come from a deceased donor). Please refer to pancreas transplant program for more information
  • Pancreas after kidney (PAK) transplants. Please refer to pancreas transplant program for more information
  • Laparoscopic donor nephrectomy (using minimally invasive surgical techniques to remove the donated kidney)

The following pages will discuss kidney transplant in detail, so that you can make an informed decision if transplant is the right option for you. You may also download our complete patient guide for offline reading. Requires the Adobe Acrobat Reader available HERE.
