The Hume-Lee Transplant Center was sponsored by Wyeth and Pharmacare Pharmacy at the Anthem Gurney Tourney held at Richmond International Raceway on June 24, 2006. The team had a great time decorating the gurney and participating in this annual Richmond fund raising event. All team members dressed in Roman attire and organized to increase the general public’s knowledge of organ donation and transplantation. The runners represented the speed at which transplants take place. The chariot represented the vehicle that brings the donated organ to the recipient and the rider represented the Gift of Life for all transplant recipients at VCU Medical Center. The Hume-Lee Transplant Center team won the fastest time and paraded the winning gurney at the Indy Race that evening. The staff turned out in numbers and cheered on our gurney. Not only did we loudly cheer our team on, but were the proud winners of the Most Enthusiastic Award, again this year! We are excited about planning next year’s gurney.
