Did you know that you may be listed at several transplant centers? This opportunity is available for kidney and combined kidney/pancreas transplant recipients. If you have been listed at a transplant center, you may be eligible to be listed at other transplant centers that are outside your "home" transplant center's organ procurement area. With the transplant waiting times increasing, many people are going to a second or even third transplant center to be multiple-center listed. The possible advantage to this is each program has different waiting times. Waiting times also vary from person to person, such as genetics and antibody levels. The median wait time for kidney transplant recipients, at the Hume-Lee Transplant Center, is 27.0 months (ustransplant.org). In the nation, it took 38 months to reach the same number of patients transplanted (ustransplant.org). The other half of the wait listed patients are either still on the transplant list or have been
removed from the list.
Multiple center listing does not affect your waiting time at your current transplant center. You continue to accrue time at your "home" center, whereas you begin to accumulate time at the Hume-Lee Transplant Center starting at Day 1.
In order to be listed at the Hume-Lee Transplant Center, you will need to have an evaluation appointment and meet our transplant team. We will make every attempt to obtain your medical records from your transplant center prior to your appointment to assist us with your evaluation. Each transplant program has its own evaluation process and you may be required to have repeat or additional testing done in order to complete your evaluation.
If a kidney or combined kidney/pancreas becomes available at the Hume-Lee Transplant Center first, you will be transplanted at our center.
