Nursing research is essential for the continued
development of the scientific base of professional
nursing practice. Virginia Commonwealth University Health
System (VCUHS) Nursing is committed to the research mission of
the Health System: "advancing
the generation, dissemination and application
of biomedical research." |
|
Focusing on nursing practice problems at the beside, the
conduct of research promotes a climate of inquiry and
contributes to improved professional nursing practice and
patient outcomes at VCUHS.
|
|
 |
Evidence-based nursing practice (EBNP)
at VCUHS is guided by the Johns Hopkins Model for EBNP. The
focus of that model is on a problem-solving approach to
decision making, with integration of scientific and
experiential evidence and incorporation of contextual forces
such as internal and external influences on nursing practice. |
|
The model encourages critical thinking in the judicious
application of evidence to care situations, including
individual patients and families, populations and systems (Newhouse,
Dearholt, Poe, Pugh & White, 2005). |
