Professional Practice

Virginia Commonwealth University Health System (VCUHS) Nursing’s Professional Practice Model (PPM), as depicted by the portico, is the schematic representation of the framework for patient care, nursing practice, and relationships. The portico reflects a practice environment built on a foundation of shared governance and is supported by the values of caring, knowledge, leadership and collaboration. Patients, their families and members of the community enter into this environment where nurses, who are recognized and rewarded for high quality care and professional expertise, provide Relationship-Based Care (RBC).
