Grand Rounds: Moving Evidence
into Practice to Improve Safety Performance
This Institute for Innovative Nursing Practice Grand Rounds will
feature Patricia O’Connor, MSc(A), RN, CHE, Associate Director of
Nursing, Neurosciences and MUHC Best Practice Guidelines Program
Co-Leader, McGill University Health Centre, and Assistant Professor,
McGill University School of Nursing.
Description: This presentation will focus on using
evidence-based practice to improve safety performance across the
healthcare continuum.
About the speaker: Patty O’connor is Associate Director of Nursing
for the Neuroscience Mission at the McGill University Health Center
(MUHC), where she is responsible for nursing practice, teaching,
research, administration and fiscal management for Neurosciences.
The McGill University Health Centre, located in Montreal, consists
of 5 acute care teaching hospitals and has approximately 3,000
nurses and 12,000 staff.
Her career began in pediatrics, first in in-patient care and then
eventually working in ambulatory services with a focus on behavioral
pediatrics and chronic illness. At McGill, her interest in family
nursing evolved and continues today. She has training in marital and
family training at the Institute of Community and Family Psychiatry
and worked as a family therapist for about ten years. She is
currently a Fellow in the EXTRA program with CHSRF. Ms O’Connor also
has taught full-time in the undergraduate program at McGill for the
last 25 years as an assistant professor with the McGill University
School of Nursing.
