Grand Rounds: Ethical And Clinical Decision Making: When Facts And Value Converge

This Institute For Innovative Nursing Practice’s Grand Rounds will feature Margaret M. Mahon, PhD, RNC, NP and Associate Professor at George Mason University in Fairfax, Virginia.

Description: The living and dying of several people have shaped the way ethics is integrated into clinical decision making. As much as we have been influenced by patients, families, and other health care providers, we have also been influenced by fears, misinformation, lawyers, judges, and the media. In this presentation, three paradigm cases that have influenced how we practice in the 21st century will be explored. A framework for integrating ethics and clinical decision making will be described. Factors distinguishing decision making with adult and pediatric patients will also be discussed.
