Women's Health and Birthing Center

The Women’s Health and Birthing Center is a 16-bed tertiary care referral center. The unit is composed of three exam/triage rooms, 11 Labor/Delivery/Recovery Rooms, two Labor/Delivery/Recovery/Postpartum Rooms and four Delivery/Operating Rooms. A whirlpool tub has been added to the unit as a pain management and relaxation modality for low-risk laboring women.

Women of childbearing age receive comprehensive patient care in the Women’s Health and Birthing Center that has an annual birth rate of 2,300 deliveries. Low-risk and high-risk antepartum, intrapartum and postpartum care are rendered to pediatric, adolescent and adult patients.

An interdisciplinary health care team composed of registered nurses, patient care technicians, operating room technicians, OB/GYN residents and attending physicians, maternal-fetal specialists, nurse midwives, neonatologists, anesthesiologists, social workers and chaplains formulate individualized plans of patient care. Operative cases performed in the Women’s Health and Birthing Center are cesarean sections, tubal ligations and dilation and curettages. Certified nurse lactation consultants provide 24-hour lactation support and breast pump rentals.
